Prisoners in China forced to farm gold in games

The news sound at first like a bad joke but it is unfortunately the truth.
The detention at Jixi re-education-through-labour camp in Heilongjiang province forces some prisoners to play online games in 12-hour shifts. Prison guards then trade-off these virtual goods to make real money, actually quite a sum too averaging from €540-640 a day.
Failing to fulfil your daily quota resulted often in physical punishment. The prisoners never receive any share of this money. Despite the fact that China started to regulate the virtual currency market in 2009 the actual prisoner delivering this story to the Guardian[1] believes these practices are still in place after he departed in 2004.
