Review: Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age (PS4)

Final Fantasy 12 got the remaster treatment and for the Zodiac version at that. It makes quite for a welcome change.

Visuals

You can tell its a remaster from a PS2 game but everything looks fine. The CGI looks as good as back then and everything got an update making this game look overall very good.

Sound

The soundtrack is awesome and the update to it makes it even better. One of the best FF soundtracks ever.

Gameplay

The license board is still the same but got a new touch to it via the Zodiac classes. Once you selected a class its irreversible. Some classes make very good combinations. For me it changed heavily how my party worked out compared to the original game. An interesting change and it worked very well.

Gambits are more comfortable because you do not need to collect them anymore. All gambits can be purchased from vendors making it easier for you to adjust the behaviour of your party.

They also added a speed mode where you can increase the games speed by 2x and 4x. This is a god send for grinding license points and items. I used it for almost the entire game except a few boss fights to be able to react in time for certain actions.

Story

No changes to the story. Still one of the most mature story lines of any Final Fantasy. No love stuff or fighting for the whole universe. Its all about war and averting it, change and resistance of it, responsibilities, losses, hate, fear, acceptance, learning to trust others, loyalty.

Summary
Visuals: 4/5
Sound: 5/5
Gameplay: 4/5
Story: 5/5
Overall: 5/5

Still one of the best Final Fantasy games ever. The Zodiac classes add a nice change to the game which can alter heavily how your party setup will be this time. Highly recommended.
