Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The force awakens in the Star Wars universe and we went to the cinema to witness it. I went in with doubts after Disney acquired the rights for it.  Read more »

Skyfall was awesome

Recently I watched the latest James Bond movie. Boy was it awesome. They made everything right in it. Kinda the perfect shot and they filled all gaps they created with rebooting it in the first place. Now all makes sense.

The action, the story and the soundtrack are great. Especially Adele’s Bond song “Skyfall” is one of the best Bond songs ever delivered.

Big 5 of 5 Stars for this movie and my highest recommendation to go watch it!

Cowboys & Aliens

Recently we watched this movie at the cinema. A very good movie. Admitted the trailer was giving a little bit of a bad lead and therefore creating expectations. The movie is 70% western. The plot is simple and upheld by the two main actors Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford.
A very positive note on this movie is the fact that it takes itself serious and is not following Hollywood trend of silly jokes that often break the realism of serious topics. Further they don’t follow suit with common happy endings, this movie takes a different approach.

I’ll give this movie 3.5 of 5 stars.

Tales of Vesperia: First strike

The movie is a prequel to the actual game “Tales of Vesperia”.
Animation style is on par with the game and the synchronisation is good.
The actual story in the movie is simple but proves very good to tell the story of the main characters
that took place before the game. The story is independent from the game.

For friends of anime, the “Tales of” series and the actual Vesperia-game a good recommendation.
Also very good is that they kept the original (and superior) Japanese Vesperia song in the credits.

The bad part with this DVD is the way it is labelled: “Limited Special Edition”
This is by far not the case. The DVD case is made of poor cheap material.
There are no special features on the DVD, no specials added, no soundtrack.
I’d go as far as to say that this is deceptive.

The movie gets a 4/5 from me but the actual product as 2.5/5.

Movie Update

Salt
A good action movie. Nice story. I like Angelina Jolie.
Until the point where the main twist is revealed it’s very interesting.
Only the last few minutes come weak.
All in all a good action movie worth watching.
The movie gets 3.5 of 5 Stars from me.

A-Team
I was very sceptical about this one.
But it got the right touch and feeling.
Good action, all characters are very good resembled and a plot that plays strong.
Only Hannibal is a tick weak, the old one was a more charismatic leader.
Murdock is a bit over the top too.
4 out of 5 Stars.

Vicky the Viking (Wickie und die stakrne Männer)
A new funny comedy movie from Michael “Bully” Herbig.
It is indeed funny, all characters immediately remember you of the old ones you know from your childhood.
The plot is simply but fun.
The only real negative part is Bully’s own role in the movie. That one never existed in the original and totally
doesn’t fit into the movie. His Bard character is actually annoying.
3 out of 5 Stars.

Vantage Point (8 Blickwinkel)
The(!) surprise of my last movie night. Friends bought it for cheap in the store, we never heard of it.
The movie completely catched us within the first 15 minutes and it stayed that way til the end.
It features also one of my favourite actors: Forest Whitaker.
The movie is a big surprise, clever ans fast til the end and every time you think you got it something small changes it.
Big 5 stars!

Sword of the stranger

About a week ago when I was browsing for new movies Amazon recommended to me this anime: “Sword of the Stranger.”
The reviews said its nice and bloody so I ordered it. >:)

A young boy is on the escape and trough circumstances he gets to hire this stranger to guard him on the way to a special temple.
Meanwhile other strangers are moving in too, for some reason looking for this boy. It doesn’t take too long until the first confrontation.
While the boy still doesn’t fully understand why and his guard don’t get it either a battle unfolds taking an entire family clan at stake.

The animation is nice and flawless. Blood is very present but not too much gore. Its just what you expect in samurai sword battles.
Everything the audience needs to know is explained.

A nice and simple yet entertaining movie.
For fans of anime and samurai I can recommend it.

3.5/5 Stars

Halo: Legends

I recently got my hands on the blu-ray edition of “Halo: Legends”.
It is similar to the Animatrix where various directors take on the franchise and tell a short story in their own way, narrative and art wise.
All episodes are very well. Ranging from standard cartoon/anime styles to very uncommon paint style and back to rendered CGI type.

The episodes fill partly the gap on the beginning of the Halo story: Where did the Halo rings come from? What were they for? What is this “flood”?
Others take on the “Alliance” and tell a piece about it and how they work.
One of them is plain fun and comical while the last one takes on the Master Chief himself in a very great and heroic action scene.^^
Additionally the disc features a “Halo: Reach” Teaser trailer which makes you want to see more.

Further there is a sort of documentary that sheds light on the Halo story (parts 1-3) so far. Its more of a “patting Halo on the shoulder” instead of a reminiscence of the story so far. Nice but could have been told much better. (compare FF7:AC).
The episodes alone are great entertainment and well worth it.

4/5 Stars
